Building This Year's National Rice Month Campaign for USA Rice

Every year, USA Rice celebrates National Rice Month. This year, we got to build the campaign behind it.

We've worked with USA Rice's brand for a while now, including helping shape the audience personas and motivators that guide their global marketing. For this project, that groundwork became the foundation we built on, not the starting point. The job this time: create a campaign bold enough to stand on its own, flexible enough to work in dozens of countries, and different enough to be instantly recognizable.

"These designs gave us more than assets — they gave us fresh inspiration for our own digital materials. We're already planning to repurpose the recipe cards and social content across Weibo, WeChat, and Red Note, and bring the floor clings and tray liners into our CIIE booth this fall." -- International USA Rice Consultant

The strategy: Rice Is Always the Right Move

The campaign line had to do a lot of work. It needed to:

  • Adapt by language: built to translate cleanly across USA Rice's international markets, not just reworded English

  • Flex by meal and moment: dinner, meal prep, leftovers, bowls, global cuisines, the line works whether someone's cooking for one or feeding a crowd

  • Stay bold: big typography, high-contrast color, halftone textures that pop on a shelf talker or a billboard alike

  • Stand apart from everyday USA Rice content: a custom National Rice Month badge lives on every asset, so retailers, partners, and consumers can spot campaign content at a glance, wherever they encounter it

A few things we kept front and center while building it:

  • Consistency over cleverness. A campaign running across billboards, shelf talkers, floor clings, table tents, and digital needs one visual system that holds up everywhere, not six different "creative directions."

  • Design for the glance, not the read. Most of these assets get seen for two seconds in a checkout line or a hallway. The badge and bold type do the heavy lifting fast.

  • Build for reuse, not just this year. This strong campaign system gives USA Rice's international partners a toolkit they can keep pulling from, not a one-off.

Getting to build a campaign at this scale, one that has to work in a grocery store in Ohio and a market stall overseas, is exactly the kind of challenge that makes this work interesting.
